Representation and Political Ideology

Analyse the ways in which media language has been used in combination in sources A and B to convey values, attitudes and beliefs about the world.

On the Daily Mail cover it is clear to see that the Main headline stands out on the cover, especially the noun, 'swarm' as it is referring to the refugees that according to this  particular tabloid are ' swarming the streets'. On the other hand The Guardian approaches this same situation in a more civilised manners by referring to the people as 'refugees', a more political and social acceptable term.

As well as the big main headline, The Daily Mail has used not one but four main visual images to enhance the issue that is being represented on this cover. As well as this, the audience is also drawn to a very bug plug at the top of the paper which represents to me that the Daily Mail have other important issues they want to cover, in this case it seems to be about dentists which people may find to be considerably less important than the other issues that people want to hear and know about. On the other hand The Guardian have dedicated a good 95% on the cover to this issue as well as a lot more copy. This would relate more to the usual readers of The guardian as it is a less gossipy and more political paper that people world wide could read.

The Guardian intrigues the audience by referring the issue as 'shocking' and 'cruel'. This shows a more personal opinion from the writer of this article as they obviously do not agree with the way people are going about 'Europe's refugee crisis'. The Daily Mail wants to make the audience see a different perspective by enhancing any comment from a high political person, in this case David Cameron referring to the 'migrants' as 'insects'. This has lead to the Daily Mail referring to the refugees as a 'swarm'. This play on words and comments will intrigue the reader into wondering what's going on and buying the paper.

Over all, both papers have used a variety of different media languages to make a story and article out of what is currently going on.
