Comparison of Stories: Daily Mail vs The Guardian

The Daily Mail-  05/09/2017 news.

As I look at the paper cover all I see is the main visual image of Kate Middleton. By looks of it, The Daily Mail likes giving their readers and viewers a good does of The Royals. In this paper, the story of the pregnancy of the Duchess ranges on for 12 pages, including general stories of the royal family. The writer of this story in very interacted with the audience speaking directly to them, 'We just can't wait to meet baby number three!' Also, the editors have advertised on the cover about the 'picture pull-out' in the paper. The adjective 'unmissable' is used to grab the readers attention. As I open the paper to pages two and three, I am once again bombarded with Kate Middleton and her being pregnant with baby number three.

The next story is the main headline story of, 'TERROR CHIEFS 'HOME-GROWN JIHADI' WARNING'. This story was written by Chris Greenwood, the Chief crime correspondent. This coverage is clear to be negative. the story approaches the subject of terrorism. This type of story is similar to the stories that The Guardian produce, the more 'serious' world wide news instead of gossip that it usually produces. Terror is very serious and this story explain the way terrorism has affected the country. 'This was truly a summer like no other, it was truly a shift and not a spike, it is truly a new norm that we face', this was outspoken by Neil Baus. The tone of this article shows a sense of hidden panic and seriousness to the readers. There is one image on page six of the paper of Neil Baus looking distressed and mid-way through a sentence. This may also distress the reader to see a high up man in the situation, in distress.
