Unfinished Sympathy and Titanium

Unfinished Sympathy is about someone who has been in love but had their heart broken. It is a love song hidden in an alternative genre. On the other hand, Titanium is about finding strength and being able to look out for yourself, It is about being independent.

A hidden message in Unfinished Sympathy is that she is so heart broken she cant have, 'a day without a night', meaning she cant sleep. The song also suggests that how life can no longer go on due to love being lost. A hidden message in Titanium is that you have to be strong even though you are getting a hell of a lot thrown at you.

In Unfinished Sympathy, the artist has been represented to be solitary in the busy environments of the streets. It shows she is lonely with her thoughts (the song) whilst the world is still going on around her and life is still happening. The members of Massive Attack are also in the hustle and bustle of the streets and can be seen throughout the video. The video is a one-shot take to bring something different to the era it was released. However, neither Sia or David Guetta appear in the music video. I believe this shows the audience again about being independent.

The artists in Unfinished Sympathy have been represented this way to convey the meaning of the song to the audience. The video says it all. Having no artist appear in Titanium, represents to the audience that you don't need to show your face to be successful.

I believe both music videos convey all the messages needed to make the audience understand what both songs are trying to convey.

Unfinished Sympathy was filmed in a single continuous shot. It begins with a shot of a street gang before moving to follow Nelson walking along the pavement unaware or uncaring of her surroundings, which include drunks, bikers, and disabled people. As the video progresses, first 3D (having finished making a call on a public phone booth) and then Daddy G (pushing a cart) can be seen walking several paces behind her, slightly out of focus. At the end of the video, Nelson walks past the camera and off down the road into the distance.
Titanium has been filmed mostly out doors using special effects also to convey the telekinesis of the child. The shots show the sunset and may scenic views.

In the music video for Unfinished Sympathy, the streets are shown too be rural with a wide controversy of people and activities. The streets used show a massive amount diversity throughout the people also.

I believe both visuals work extremely well with the lyrics, from dynamics and tempo to a deeper meaning of the song matching the video.

From Unfinished Sympathy, the audience get the pleasure of listening to a piece of alternative music which convey a love song in a not so romantic genre. The audience has a view into the thoughts of the singer. From Titanium, the audience get the pleasure of listening to an up beat song which gives them self confidence while watching a highly dynamic video.
